Strategy fans who have played the XCOM: Enemy Unknown remake created by Firaxis and are interested in Sid Meier’s Starships are in for a treat, as the two leading developers at the studio spent some time talking about the design philosophies they use and the future of the genre.

The new Twitch stream for the coming title features plenty of footage from the experience and some details about its mechanics, but the most interesting element is the interaction between the two game creators.

Sid Meier’s Starships will allow players to explore a large universe using fleets created by themselves using their own designs, with a range of components that can be selected to reflect the philosophy of each player.

The story will involve a mysterious force that threatens the various groups of mankind spread around the galaxy, and players will have to complete missions, complete research and expand their infrastructure in order to reach victory.

The game is linked to the universe of Civilization: Beyond Earth, and the Affinities introduced in 2014 will play an important role in the gameplay.

The team at Firaxis says that Sid Meier himself is handling plenty of coding for Starships.

The title is expected to arrive on the PC before the end of spring.
