The development team at Firaxis is continuing its charm offensive for Sid Meier’s Starships by delivering a new extended video in which the legendary game maker himself shows the community the range of options that will be offered for actual ship design.

It seems that players will get access to a wide range of technology and equipment that can be used to make the fleets powerful and capable of taking out a variety of enemy threats.

Sid Meier says that Starships is not designed to offer one design that will trump all others and it seems that gamers will always have to accept some tradeoffs when they install a powerful set of offensive weapons or when they double armor size.

Pete Murray, another developer at Firaxis, also takes part in a Question & Answer session in which fans get some more details about the core mechanics of Sid Meier’s Starships.

The title is designed to use classic 4X mechanics and will exist in the same universe as Civilization: Beyond Earth, with a focus on exploration and on tactical combat.

For the moment, an exact launch date has not been announced, but we know that the title is arriving on the PC, Android and iOS before the end of spring this year.
