Yacht Club Games have announced that the Wii U and Nintendo 3DS versions of their retro platformer Shovel Knight is going to have a couple of exclusive multiplayer features.

Players will be able to leave behind hints and pictures on the GamePad, similar to how the message system in Dark Souls works, as Polygon notes.

"Every time there's a room where you don't know what to do, or if you just want some more information, you can tap on this diary. Leave a message for other players or get a message yourself," Yacht Club Games founder Sean Velasco explained.

The Nintendo 3DS exclusive features are a mix of turn-based and real-time combat, as players will compete against each other asynchronously via StreetPass.

Players will be able to record 5-second clips of themselves attacking their opponents and gathering gems, and when they go near someone with a StreetPass, they will see how their recorder play went and then be able to make the necessary adjustments to their strategy.

The game is scheduled to come out for PC, Mac, Linux, Wii U and 3DS on March 31.
