Jordan Weisman, the leader of developer Harebrained Schemes, says that his upcoming Shadowrun Returns will likely not launch on the new PlayStation 4 home console from Sony because of the details of the current licensing deal that he has with Microsoft.

The company owns the rights to Shadowrun because of the first-person shooter based on the franchise that was launched in 2007.

Weisman also praises the approach that both Sony and Microsoft are taking towards indie developers for the next generation of consoles.

The developer tells VG247 that, “I think you’re seeing a shift towards supporting indies and there is still much to be done. You would have to be blind to miss the impact that indies are having on game development.”

Shadowrun Returns is set to be launched on the PC in late June.
