The first-person horror game nails the vibe of Ridley Scott's Alien, and is one of the best entries in the genre

Sega has released its earnings report for last year, revealing that Alien: Isolation has sold 2.1 million copies worldwide, since its release in October 2014.

The company's previously revealed figures date from January this year, when Sega reported that Alien: Isolation had sold 1 million copies.

The game is largely considered the first video game to nail the feeling of the original "Alien" movie, and developer Creative Assembly has received a lot of praise for being faithful to director Ridley Scott's vision.

The first-person survival stealth game manages to evoke the feeling of dread and the tension of sneaking around a semi-abandoned space base with a deadly predator on the prowl. If you want to learn more about the title, you can check out our review of Alien: Isolation.

Sega revealed that its entire software catalog managed to score over 12 million units sold, and described the year as a "weak" one, blaming Alien: Isolation for its poor performance.

The situation seems similar to when Square Enix decried the poor performance of the Tomb Raider reboot, in spite of the fact that it is the most successful entry in the franchise to date, having sold over 8.5 million copies so far.

Granted, it's unlikely that Alien: Isolation will manage to perform as well, since Tomb Raider had sold 1 million copies in its first 24 hours.
