Savage: The Shard of Gosen has just launched its Kickstarter and Greenlight campaigns, aiming to deliver one man's vision and love for barbarians and action platforming into avid players' hands.

Savage: The Shard of Gosen is a 2D platformer with a couple of role-playing game elements thrown into the mix, taking place in a brutal fantasy open world. Gameplay will be largely similar to Zelda, Castlevania and Super Mario Bros.

The world of Lor is a completely original fantasy setting, with its general atmosphere inspired by Robert E. Howard's Conan stories and the Dungeons & Dragons Dark Sun setting, on top of a healthy dose of '80s barbarian action movies.

The sole developer behind the Kickstarter project is Matt Fitzgerald, a daring designer that takes it upon himself to handle all of the design, coding, art and sound work required for the game.

Work on the project has started for some time, and a public alpha demo of the game is available for free on IndieDB.

The game will feature character progression, a non-linear world to explore, and procedurally generated open world encounters.
