Saints Row 4, the next installment in the over-the-top franchise, has been banned in Australia, as the Classification Board has denied it even a R18+ rating, meaning it won't go on sale this August in the country.

Update: Deep Silver and Volition have confirmed that they're currently modifying the game to make sure to make sure it will be classified and launched in Australia.

Australia had some infamous laws restricting the sale of violent games but, after the introduction of the R18+ rating at the beginning of the year, gamers hoped that all titles would appear in the country.

That's not so, as the Australian Classification Board has just confirmed that Saints Row 4 won't receive any rating, not even R18+, due to its ultra-violent content.

"In the Board's opinion, Saints Row IV, includes interactive, visual depictions of implied sexual violence which are not justified by context. In addition, the game includes elements of illicit or proscribed drug use related to incentives or rewards. Such depictions are prohibited by the computer games guidelines," the board said in a statement, via GameArena.

Saints Row 4 developer Volition or publisher Deep Silver have yet to comment on the sales ban.
