A source has told IGN that Sony has plans to introduce a tiered subscription system for its PlayStation Plus service, allowing customers to choose which kind of content they are interested in and pay just for that.

PlayStation Plus delivers extra content for those who have a PlayStation Network account and allows them to get early access to some releases.

It seems that the new tiered system will introduce more content for the various levels and that gamers will be able to choose what kind of online experiences they are interested in.

An official statement from Sony states: “We have nothing specific to announce at this time, but PlayStation Plus continues to delight gamers with free games, huge discounts and exclusive gaming features that can’t be found on other platforms.”

PlayStation Plus was introduced in 2010 and was designed to replicate the success of Xbox Live Gold, which has always been a subscription service.
