Quinn Duffy, a game director working at Relic, suggests that his company is currently testing new ideas and creating a new engine and that will lead to some delay in the official announcement for Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War 3.

He tells Eurogamer that, “When we look at things like that, especially when you get into very early development on future titles, some of it is beneficial from a learning experience, and some of it from a technology experience just isn't.”

The developer says that Relic has started working on ideas for Dawn of War 3 a number of times and stopped, presumably to finish Company of Heroes 2 and to deal with its move from THQ to SEGA.

The team has previously announced that it will share technology with The Creative Assembly.

The Dawn of War series has managed to capture the core elements of the Warhammer 40,000 science fiction universe and to create a set of very enjoyable mechanics around them.

The first two titles have generated solid sales and Relic has managed to tweak the formula significantly from release to release and even expansion to expansion.

Given that Dawn of War 3 is at the moment only in the rumor stage it is entirely possible that gamers will have to wait for more than one year before they hear an official announcement, with release potentially taking place in 2015.
