A rare copy of Family Fun Fitness: Stadium Events is currently on auction on a specialist site and the current winning bid sits at 12,000 Dollars (9,200 Euro) while the initial purchase price was $8 (€6) from a Goodwill store.

The process ends on April 28 and anyone who values rare, old video games can submit a bid.

The unnamed woman tells Game Gavel that, “I’m graduating this coming May with my Bachelors degree in Accounting, and the money from this unexpected find will allow us to pay off my student loans.”

Family Fun Fitness: Stadium Events was only produced in a limited run of 2,000 copies and the quality problems the title had meant that only about 10 percent of them were actually sold before a recall.

The scarcity of the game means that it usually fetches high prices at auction, even if the experience of playing it is reported to be disappointing.

The controller used to play Family Fun Fitness: Stadium Events was an early precursor of the Balance Board for the Nintendo Wii.
