Ubisoft has offered some details about Rainbow Six Patriots, the tactical shooter revealed back in 2011 that has been long in development, confirming that it's been canceled because it didn't work as intended on new platforms like PS4 or Xbox One.

At E3 2014 earlier today, Ubisoft revealed to the world Rainbow Six Siege, a new type of experience in the series, focused on online matches with modes like Hostage Rescue.

Afterwards, many fans of the series began wondering what happened to Rainbow Six Patriots, the previously confirmed game in the franchise, which was supposed to place a big emphasis on story, terrorism, and more.

Ubisoft has elaborated on this subject on the UbiBlog, simply confirming that Rainbow Six Patriots "just didn't cut it for the new generation."

Apparently, Ubisoft decided to reboot the Rainbow Six series with a new team when the PS4 and Xbox One were revealed, and the technologies developed that took advantage of the powerful consoles, such as the destruction ones, were incompatible with the direction Patriots had.

Ubisoft is adamant that Rainbow Six Siege is "even bigger and better," so fans shouldn't mourn the loss of the Patriots project.

Rainbow Six Siege has been confirmed for PC, PS4, and Xbox One for a 2015 release.
