Project Zomboid, the urban zombie survival sandbox game from Indie Stone Studios, will soon be getting full multiplayer support.

The game presents a strong single-player focused experience of urban survival in a zombie-infested background that players have to carefully navigate in order to scavenge for the much-needed supplies required for survival.

The announcement heralding online multiplayer with persistent player run servers was part of the latest Project Zomboid developer blog post, detailing some of their plans for 2014.

Internal tests have revealed that up to 10 or 12 players are fully supported through a regular internet connection and that anyone with a copy of Project Zomboid's Early Access alpha will be able to host their own dedicated server with either co-op or PvP options and full mod support.

“We need to make it clear that this in no way impacts the Indie Stone’s massive focus on single-player for this game,” says developer Indie Stone.

They mention that the game's NPC development efforts are still ongoing, and still capture the lion's share of the team's attention, and that they don't yet want to release them, before they make sure that everything works right.
