The development team at the Pokemon Company is announcing that they are working on a new Pokemon video game with Tekken, designed to use core fighting game mechanics and called Pokken Tournament.

The title will apparently be launched initially in Japan in 2015 and will be offered exclusively in arcades for a while, with a home console and potentially a PC version coming after that.

The official announcement via livestream is in Japanese, so some of the details are still hazy, but it seems that the characters included in Pokken Tournament will be taken from other installments in the franchise, while the core mechanics will be those of the Tekken series entirely.

Namco Bandai says that all fans of the creature-based series will be able to enjoy the coming fighting game, which probably means that at least some of the elements included will be somewhat simplified.

Since earlier in the month rumors talked about a big new Pokemon announcement which might include a first title that would arrive on mobile devices, many gamers were expecting to hear about an entirely new line of 3DS or Wii U titles, but it seems that for the moment, they will have to be satisfied with the coming arcade-based Pokken Tournament.
