Gamers will be able to play both Pokemon X & Y and the trading card game

The Pokemon Company announces that the 2014 edition of the Pokemon World Championships is set to take place on August 16 and 17 of this year in Washington, DC in the United States, with 30 countries all over the world set to organize national qualifying events in the coming months.

J.C. Smith, director of consumer marketing at the company, states, “Our vibrant Pokemon community loves a good Pokemon battle. The Pokemon National Championships will bring out the best players and biggest fans in each country.”

According to the official site, in Europe, the competition will take place in:

- 2014 Pokemon German National Championships: May 3–4, 2014, in Bochum, Germany - 2014 Pokemon United Kingdom National Championships: May 24–25, 2014, in Manchester, UK - 2014 Pokemon Italian National Championships: May 31–June 1, 2014, in Milan, Italy

The United States National Championships will take place in Indianapolis, Indiana from July 4 to 6.

The events will include both Pokemon X & Y and the trading card game based on the series and more than 2,000 players are expected to contest the limited number of places that each country will have for the World Championships.

Dates for other territories, including the ones in Africa, Asia and South America, will be announced later.
