The teased PocketStation announcement from Sony has taken place today and the company is revealing that it is basically emulating the former hardware using the computing power of the Vita handheld.

The first game to be launched for the application is Chocobo World from Square Enix, which is described as a player favorite.

A Japanese trailer also reveals the core features of the PocketStation on the Vita.

Dokodemo Issho, a PlayStation One game that uses Toro the Cat as the main character, is set to be launched on December 3 and mini-games like Crash Bandicoot 3, Mega Man and Ape Escape are also included.

Sony has not said whether it plans to launch the PocketStation app on Western markets, despite interest from long-term fans of the brand.

The company is getting ready to launch the PlayStation 4 home console in the United States on November 15 and two weeks later in Europe, for the price of 399 dollars or Euro.
