Sony Computer Entertainment has released PlayStation Vita Pets, the virtual pet game, along with a launch trailer that highlights the game's main features.

The virtual pet game lets players pick a dog to become friends with, and then join it in a thrilling adventure taking place on an island filled with mazes, caves and untold treasure.

The little pups featured in PlayStation Vita Pets are of the magical kind, and as such are able to speak, the game featuring over 10k lines of recorded dialogue, in order to provide a more engaging experience.

Dogs will be able to remember a player's face and voice, and so will recognize their owner and his friends when they return to play with them again.

In addition to this, the game also makes use of markerless augmented-reality technology that allows the little dogs to enter the real world, where players can take pictures with them, as shown in the trailer below.

Players will be able to join their companion and solve the mystery of Castlewood Island, and then teach it dog tricks and take photos, in what is probably the most complex Tamagotchi ever created.

PlayStation Vita Pets is available now across both North America and Europe.
