Developer Spiral House and publisher Sony announce that they are collaborating on a new project called PlayStation Vita Pets, which is set to arrive on the handheld in 2014.

The experience will use traditional pet sim elements, including the ability to train and care for a dog, with adventures that take place in the wider world of Castlewood Island, which includes forests, swamps and a mysterious castle in the center.

Kevin Oxland, the creative director at Spiral House, writes on the PlayStation Blog that, “In the game you pick from four different puppies, each with their own personality, sense of humour and character traits.”

Inside the player’s home the dogs can be fed, bathed, dressed using various accessories, trained to learn various skills and stroked to increase their happiness.

Two of the dogs in PlayStation Vita Pets will be featured in a demo that will be shown at the coming Gamescom event in Germany.
