At the moment, the company is focused on the needs of the player

PlayStation Now is designed to use streaming tech to allow players to engage with a wide range of titles on a wide variety of devices and Sony admits that some might see that as a sign of a future where home consoles are no longer important.

John Koller, the vice president who handles hardware for the company, is quoted by CVG as saying that, “I don't think PS Now necessarily disenfranchises future consoles in any way. But it does, I think, show our willingness to try and focus on content as primary. Really, again, focussing on the gamer first - obviously they want great content, great experiences.”

PlayStation Now will first be offered on the PS4, the Vita and on special television sets.

In the future, Sony wants to expand its scope to also cover mobile devices and tablets.

The service will initially be only offered in the United States starting this summer.
