Video game hardware developer and game publisher Sony has announced that its PlayStation Network service will go down for maintenance starting with 10:00 AM Eastern Daylight Time and 4:00 PM British Summer Time and that the features will be unavailable until 2:00 AM EDT and 8:00 AM on Friday, May 25.

The PlayStation Store will be unavailable on the PlayStation 3 home console, the older PlayStation Portable handheld and the newly launched Vita.

Account Management will also be down for the duration and the Account Registration system will also be out of commission.

Users will also be unable to sign in to the PSN service from the web.

Sony says that those who log into the PSN service before maintenance starts might be able to play the multiplayer game modes, depending on how the various parts of the network are taken down.

The official statement from Sony reads: “Regular maintenance is a necessary part of operating a service such as PSN.”
