Players need to rely on PSP infrastructure to download games

Players who have installed the new PlayStation 3 firmware update, bearing the version number 4.00, are reporting that they are no longer able to copy PlayStation Portable specific games from the PS3 home console to their handheld.

The process used to be simple, with players needing only to connect the two devices and pair them to use the same PlayStation Network ID.

They would then be able to copy a game using the Extended Media Bar from the home console to the PSP.

Due to the fact that the option has been eliminated via firmware 4.00, players have to power up their PSP and then use the connectivity options of the handheld in order to get the same games that they own.

The PS3 firmware update 4.00 is set to prepare the device for the Japanese launch of the PlayStation Vita, enabling a number of hub features.

Sony has also confirmed that the new handheld can be used as a controller for a number of PS3 titles.
