The next-gen console will be region free, just like the PlayStation 3

A Sony representative has confirmed that the PlayStation 4 won't be region-locked, meaning owners of the console can play games that weren't bought from their own geographical region.

The PS4 received a huge amount of details earlier today during Sony's E3 2013 press conference, including its first photos, info about its used games system, and about its PlayStation Plus service.

Now, according to a Twitter message posted by Sony Japan's Brad Douglas, who talked with a Sony PR representative, the PlayStation 4 isn't region-locked, meaning gamers can buy the console from any part of the world and play games bought from any other region of the globe.

This is another key difference between the PS4 and Xbox One, as Microsoft's next-gen console is region-locked due to entertainment requirements, according to the company.

Sony hasn't explicitly confirm the lack of region locking but, considering the PS3 is also region-free, it's pretty much a given.
