Fergal Gara, the managing director working at the PlayStation division in the UK, says that his company always planned to create a Remote Play system for the PlayStation 4 and the Vita handheld in order to bring innovative experiences to its fans.

He tells VG247 that, “From an architecture point of view, that compatibility between the two was always designed into the Vita’s system. By the time PS Vita development started we were well into the development path of the PlayStation 4, so things were very much designed to work together.”

The PS4 has been a success since it was launched, managing to deliver more than 4.2 million units to gamers in the United States and in Europe since it was launched in November.

It will be available in Japan starting with February 22, with some exclusive content for launch titles.

The Vita has not performed as well as Sony was expecting, but the company says that the PS4 association should help it in the short term.
