The industry will post an overall decline over the same period of 2013

Michael Pachter, the analyst watching the video game industry for Wedbush Morgan, says that he expects the PlayStation 4 to win the next-gen console battle for January 2014 with 375,000 units sold, while the Xbox One will deliver 350,000 devices to customers.

The overall value of the industry will decline by 20 percent when compared to last year, mainly because of the faster than expected decline of the Xbox 360 and the PlayStation 3, but also because of limited supply for next-gen devices.

GamesIndustry.biz quotes the analyst as saying that, “we expect overall industry software sales to rebound into positive territory later this year. We believe this rebound is not only sustainable, but we expect it to be dramatic in the back half of the year, with double-digit gains expected.”

The Wii U is expected to only report sales of 60,000 units for January and there are fears for its long-term future.
