DFC Intelligence, an analyst firm, estimates that the PlayStation 4 had the most successful console launch in history and is well positioned to win the battle with the Xbox One in the coming years.

Sony has announced that it has managed to sell more than 2 million units since the new device was released in North America and Europe, while Microsoft has recently revealed that its own platform has also reached that milestone.

Shacknews quotes a DFC Intelligence report as saying that the PS2 and the Wii both had very good launches and then went on to generate sales records.

It adds, “DFC Intelligence does not believe that the PlayStation 4 will surpass those systems but reiterates its forecast that the PS4 will be the number one system of this generation.”

The company also says that the Wii U from Nintendo shows no sign of a rebound and will only manage to sell about half the number of consoles that the Wii delivered to gamers.
