Sony has confirmed that the PlayStation 4 next-gen console is much more quiet than the current PlayStation 3, largely because the new device will use a stepless fan that will gradually increase its rotation speed depending on the performance of the platform.

Quite a lot of PlayStation 4 details have appeared in recent months, as Sony wants customers to learn everything about the new console.

Now, Sony's Masayasu Ito has revealed to AVwatch a few details about the device and how its noise level will be lower than the PlayStation 3.

This is largely because the new cooling fan has a stepless design, meaning that its speed will change gradually, and not at once.

While the Blu-ray player now runs at 6x speed, which makes it louder than the 2x version in the PS3, Sony is confident that the hard drive space will allow for more content to be installed on it and reduce the actual use of the disc.
