A new analysis of the PlayStation 4's internal components and hardware suggests that Sony spends around $381 (€282) to build the actual next-gen console, leaving it very little margin for profit, considering that the official price is $399 or €399, depending on the region.

The PS4 has been available in North America since last week, and it should launch in certain parts of Europe on November 29.

The console has already received its fair share of teardowns and disassemblies, but AllThingsD has now confirmed with IHS a new analysis of the PS4's internal components.

According to the company, the individual parts and their cost of assembly end up at around $381 (€282). This leaves just $18 of pure profit for Sony based on the official $399 retail price.

The analysis shows that the processor and memory are the most expensive parts of the console.

The analysis is in line with the statements from Sony itself, which claimed that the PS4 was profitable only if a full game and a PlayStation Plus subscription were bought alongside it.
