Robert A. Lloyd, the chief financial officer at specialist game retailer Gamestop, says that his company is sure that Sony will launch the new PlayStation 4 globally before the end of the year, even if the hardware maker has not yet confirmed an official date.

According to a transcript from SeekingAlpha, the executive has told investors that, “We know that Sony will introduce the PlayStation 4 globally in 2013, but we are still waiting to see what Microsoft’s final plans are.”

Apparently, Gamestop is preparing for a 2013 as well as a 2014 launch for the Xbox 720, which is rumored to be revealed in an event towards the end of the month.

The retailer expects to see the arrival of new consoles boost sales by 20 percent over the year, with close to a million players already interested in buying the PlayStation 4.
