Tramell Isaac, the art director working on Planetside 2 at Sony Online Entertainment, says that the future titles created using the MMO engine will use a wide variety of graphic quality setting in order to serve a wide audience.

Speaking to Shacknews the developer says, “The engine can be dialed down back to wherever we want to put it. Every other game that’s made doesn’t need the visual fidelity that PlanetSide 2 does. That’s the choice of the development team.”

The developer has not said exactly what video games will use the ForgeLight engine and whether it is restricted to the MMO space.

Planetside 2 is a PC title that can deliver a beautiful game world and detailed characters to those who have powerful enough hardware.

At the same time, MMOs need to be widely accessible in order to gain a solid long-term audience.
