The development team at Kojima Productions and publisher Konami are confirming that the much-teased Phantom Pain video game is the long-awaited Metal Gear Solid V, currently in development for the PlayStation 3 from Sony and the Xbox 360.

The announcement came via a Game Developers Conference 2013 panel and HIdeo Kojima said that he was eagerly awaiting to create the new chapter in the long-running saga.

The game will use the newly revealed Fox Engine in order to deliver impressive graphics quality and the Kojima Productions team aims to create an experience that seamlessly mixes gameplay and cutscenes.

At the moment, the two companies are also working on Metal Gear Solid: Ground Zeroes, another game set in the same universe that will use an open-world structure.

It's not yet clear how the two stories relate to one another.
