Sony announces that it has suspended the Redeem Voucher functionality of the PlayStation Network in order to minimize the disruption that the service is experiencing after the launch of the PlayStation 4 in Europe.

The company explains in an official blog post that, "Unfortunately this means that money cards, product vouchers, PlayStation Plus vouchers, PS3-PS4 upgrade vouchers and any other vouchers for digital content are not redeemable at this stage."

Other PSN elements like friends, Trophies, the PS Store for purchases, multiplayer and messages are all available at the moment.

Sony says that it continues to investigate the problems that the service is experiencing and that it plans to have an update on the situation for gamers as soon as possible.

It's unclear whether high launch traffic linked to the PS4 is the only problem for the PSN or if there's a bigger issue that needs to be resolved.
