Sony has confirmed that the PS Vita 2000 model, which has just been released in its native Japan, can be charged using the new Micro USB port with any sort of charger, even ones from smartphones.

The PS Vita 2000 brings all sorts of improvements over the original version of the handheld console, from built-in storage to a better battery.

For the new device, Sony also decided to swap the proprietary connector it used on the original design with a standard micro USB port that, according to the company's Shuhei Yoshida, can be used to charge the console using all sorts of non-Sony chargers, including ones made for smartphones, for example.

As of yet, however, Sony hasn't talked about a potential release of the PS Vita in other territories besides its native Japan, meaning fans in Europe or North America are forced to buy just the original version, albeit at a lower price.
