Orphan is a video that game proposes a bleak experience, where you take on the role of a little boy trying to survive all alone, in the wake of an alien invasion.

The most striking thing about the game is the atmospheric art direction, that looks inspired by classic indie platformer Limbo (although the developers claim that Snoopy sneaking across the countryside at night in It's the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown was their source), but with a bit more color and depth.

Windy Hill Studio is trying to get the game off the ground through a crowdfunding campaign on Kickstarter, and the pitch video (which you can watch below) looks enchanting and really promising.

Orphan follows the seemingly sole survivor of an overnight alien invasion, sneaking across the countryside and over perilous mountains while pursued by an army of murderous machines.

The developers cite Another World, Blackthorne and Oddworld: Abe's Oddysey as inspiration for Orphan, and players will be treated to classically styled 2D action platforming gameplay, including stealth, item discovery and strategic combat. As the character grows stronger, the focus will shift more toward action.

The game is being developed for Steam, coming to the Windows PC, Mac OS X and Linux platforms, but the studio also added a PlayStation 4 stretch goal.
