The team working on the Oculus Rift virtual reality device announces that it has secured a new line of funding, worth 75 million dollars (52 million Euro), which will be used in order to perfect and launch the consumer version of the device.

Investment firm Andreessen Horowitz has offered the necessary funds after it has obtained a seat on the company board for its founder, Mark Andreessen.

Brendan Iribe, the chief executive officer of Oculus Rift, is quoted by VentureBeat as saying that, “This additional infusion of capital, as well as the leadership and experience of Marc Andreessen, will help us take the final steps toward our ultimate goal: making virtual reality something consumers everywhere can enjoy.”

Initial funds for the development of the Oculus Rift virtual reality device were raised via Kickstarter and at the moment, backers have access to a version of the hardware.

John Carmack has recently joined the team and says that he believes the tech has the power to revolutionize gaming.
