The demo is powered by a single graphics card, but it requires lots of power

Nvidia has just demonstrated its Face Works technology, showcasing a stunning simulation of a human head that can be run by a single GeForce Titan card, but it can't be rendered by next-generation consoles like the PlayStation 4 or Xbox 720.

While lots of gamers are talking about future consoles and the sort of graphics they'll be able to display, Nvidia has just showcased one of its new technologies called Face Works, which can render a stunningly detailed human head, which would normally require around 32GB of code, but only needs 300MB.

The demonstration, available in the video above, starts at the 8:30 mark and shows Ira, a man whose head and facial expressions are almost lifelike.

According to Nvidia's calculations, the Ira demo, which runs on a single GeForce Titan card, needs around 2 teraflops (2 trillion floating-point operations per second). In comparison, the PlayStation 4 can only handle 1.84 teraflops while the Xbox 720 is reported to complete 1.2 teraflops.

As of yet, Nvidia hasn't teamed up with any game developer to actually make an experience using Face Works.
