Graphics cards are evolving too fast for Sony and Microsoft to keep up

Tony Tamasi, an executive at Nvidia, says that the upcoming Xbox One and PlayStation 4 next-gen consoles cannot deliver more computing power and better graphics than the PCs that are launching at the same time.

VG247 says that the company believes the pace of innovation will always be faster when an open platform is used.

Tamasi states, “Nvidia spends 1.5 billion US dollars per year on research and development in graphics, every year, and in the course of a console’s lifecycle we’ll spend over 10 billion dollars into graphics research.”

Sony and Microsoft will be unable to match the spending and will have to deal with the fact that the hardware in their devices will slowly become obsolete.

Nvidia says that it has chosen not to be involved with the Xbox One and the PlayStation 4 because the company believes that mobile gaming and open PC platforms will be the future of gaming.
