Nintendo is looking for 9 million sales in one year

Nintendo is announcing its financial results for the second quarter of the year, which ended on June 30, and the company says that during the three-month period, it only managed to sell 160,000 units of the Wii U home console.

Software sales for the platform have amounted to 1.03 million copies during the same time and it seems that New Super Luigi U and Game & Wario were the best-selling titles.

The company has announced that it is aiming to sell about 9 million units of the Wii U during the current fiscal year, a target that seems impossible to meet at the moment.

A price cut might be the only way to make the device competitive in the fall, when the Xbox One and the PlayStation 4 are expected to launch.

Nintendo reports that it has made a small profit and that all its long-term forecasts remain unchanged.
