Satoru Iwata, the president of Nintendo, believes that the handheld and the home console market will converge in the near future and that his company might explore a unified device once the Wii U and the 3DS become obsolete.

Apparently, the relationship between the two types of devices is like that between brothers, according to sources quoted by Gamasutra that attended the investor briefing.

Some analysts have suggested that Nintendo should plan to drop support for the Wii U in order to focus its resources on a new device.

A leak has even offered potential hardware specifications for such a device, but Nintendo has not commented on the posted information.

In the near term, the company has plans to continue launching titles for both the Wii U and the 3DS and also wants to create a new quality of life experience, designed to improve the users’ health.
