Nintendo has admitted that it could have done a better job differentiating the new Wii U from the regular Wii, and even went so far as to say that some customers believed the Wii U's GamePad was just an accessory for the Wii.

The Wii U came out back in November last year around the world and, since then, the console didn't exactly take off in terms of sales, as Nintendo was recently forced to reduce its expectations.

While the company's President, Satoru Iwata, believes one of the main reasons for the slow sales is the lack of great games, he also admits that Nintendo could have done a better job of differentiating the Wii U against the Wii.

"Some have the misunderstanding that Wii U is just Wii with a pad for games, and others even consider Wii U GamePad as a peripheral device connectable to Wii. We feel deeply responsible for not having tried hard enough to have consumers understand the product," he said, via Gematsu.

Nintendo has confirmed that it plans to release many great first-party titles to draw potential customers to the Wii U.
