The development team at Nintendo working on the 3DS and the newly announced 2DS devices says that it has a long-term strategy that’s very different from the one Sony is using to promote its own PlayStation Vita handheld.

Scott Moffitt, an executive vice president of sales and marketing, is quoted by VG247 as stating, “I believe their view on the market is that the handheld gaming occasion and the home gaming occasion are one in the same, that people just have the desire to keep continue playing their home console game when they leave the house.”

Nintendo wants to keep gaming on handhelds and on the Wii U entirely separate.

The 3DS and the 2DS are designed to keep a player occupied for smaller periods of time and in new situations.

The newly introduced handheld eliminates the three dimensional capabilities of the device and adds a lower price, with launch set for October 12.
