Nintendo of Japan has announced that the new firmware update for the 3DS handheld has been delayed and is now expected to arrive on December 8.

The company has not offered any reason for the delay.

The system update will deliver such improvements as more features for the Mii Plaza social space, the ability to transfer data between two 3DS consoles and an improvement to the 3D movie capture ability of the handheld.

Some have blamed the worse than expected sales performance of the Nintendo 3DS to the limited set of features that the device had on launch, mostly linked to its rushed development cycle.

Nintendo has promised to solve all issues via firmware updates and delaying one of them will not be welcomed by the player base.

The company has recently showed data demonstrating that the 3DS has performed better than its predecessor has during its first year in the United States.
