Bethesda has confirmed that a new version of Doom 4 is now in production, as an early version of the project made by id Software was canceled due to quality issues.

Veteran developer id Software hasn't been going through the best of times, as after the lackluster debut of Rage back in 2011, many expected the company to reveal Doom 4 and save itself from a terrible fate under owner ZeniMax.

Now, after new reports, Pete Hines, the marketing boss for publisher Bethesda, has confirmed that the original version of Doom 4 was canceled some time ago and, since then, id Software has been working on a new edition of the game that will "meet the very high expectations everyone has for this game and this franchise."

As of yet, however, Eurogamer says that neither Bethesda nor id is ready to talk about Doom 4 or its potential reveal date.
