The development team at Maxis has released a trailer for the recently announced Sim City reboot which shows how the new GlassBox engine can be used to deliver advanced and realistic city creation simulation on both the PC and home consoles.

The demo shows how the GlassBox engine, which was designed specifically for this game, will dynamically create terrain and features from underlying map layers and how various resources and agents are being generated.

The video also shows effects and animations that the game will use, although most of the graphics are still placeholders, given that the Sim City project is still in the early days at the moment.

The new Sim City was unveiled during the 2012 Game Developers Conference and is set to be launched during 2013, with Maxis also talking about mobile versions and about a social game based on the same concept, probably creating an environment where the different versions will interact with each other.
