Gearbox has revealed the second developer diary for the upcoming Homeworld Remastered Collection, the return to the popular science fiction universe.

Homeworld was a phenomenal title when it was initially released, being a genre-defining real-time strategy game that introduced the freedom of full three-dimensional movement and massive scale space battles for the first time in gaming, in such a compelling manner that the game reached instant cult status.

Now, Gearbox is working on releasing Homeworld Remastered Collection, a version of the original game and its sequel designed to function properly on modern computers, and coming with a massive visual overhaul and recreated cutscenes.

Homeworld Remastered will be released on February 25, 2015, exclusively to the Windows PC platform. Should the remake turn out to be a success, Gearbox mentioned that it would consider creating a full-fledged reboot, a third entry in the series, consisting of the same base gameplay but adding some more modern and innovative features.

Gearbox has also started working on the next installment in the highly acclaimed Borderlands franchise and is releasing Borderlands: The Handsome Collection on new-gen platforms at the end of March, consisting of Borderlands 2, Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel, and all the DLC ever released for the two first-person shooters.
