Bandai Namco is currently making a Godzilla game for the PlayStation 3, to be released in Japan this winter, and the company has just released the first teaser trailer for the project.

Japanese video games magazine Famitsu says that the monster's outlook and the gameplay of the title are based more on the iconic look of the older movies, rather than the recent blockbuster that come out of Hollywood.

SH Monster Arts is in charge of creating the 3D models and 3D skin, as Siliconera reports, and the entire thing is directed with the traditional Godzilla movies in mind. The atmosphere, the explosions and the dynamic camera angles will be areas that the development team will focus on in order to deliver a modern incarnation of the classical films' vision of the monster.

The title will allow players to assume control of the kaiju, smash up buildings and perform other giant monstery stuff, and the trailer offers us a glimpse of the game in action, wreaking havoc on a poor, defenseless city.

Godzilla is due out in Japan sometime this winter, and for now it is unclear whether the giant monster will manage to make its way to European or North American shores.
