A new dashboard look, which will be linked to the Xbox 720 home console when it is officially launched, will be tested by Microsoft in late June or early July.

A report from The Verge cites sources from inside the company and says that the new user interface will bear some similarities to that introduced in Windows 8.1.

The color scheme is also being altered and Microsoft will try out a number of ideas before settling on a final look.

All Xbox 360 users will be able to choose whether to use the new dashboard or stick to the interface they known, and those who make the change will continue to interact with those who do not.

Apparently, Microsoft will show off the actual design of the Xbox 720 during its May 21 event and the device will be smaller and denser than the current generation of home console.
