The developers at Irrational Games have revealed a new trailer for BioShock Infinite during the VGA ceremony, created entirely using in-game footage, which shows some weapons, new enemies and suggests a more emotional story than initially thought.

The combat sequences appear to be pretty fast and the open world nature of the flying island of Columbia means that there are more tactical opportunities and threats than those in previous BioShock titles, with the Skyrails playing a pivotal role.

The trailer also focuses on Elizabeth, the girl with supernatural powers that the player character needs to rescue, showing her emotional side and the apparent anger that drives her to action.

The game will use the same core battle mechanics as previous BioShock games but the supernatural elements will be more pronounced, with alternate realities opened up by Elizabeth.

BioShock Infinite has a 2012 release date and will probably arrive on all major platforms.
