The title will probably still take place in Victorian London

Video game publisher Ubisoft has confirmed that it plans to reveal the next title in the Assassin's Creed franchise on May 12, but it seems that the company has decided to call the title Syndicate rather than Victory, as many fans expected.

Kotaku quotes sources from the company confirming the name change, but says that no official comment has been made.

Apparently, a pre-recorded stream will be used to show off the first footage from the game, although it is unclear whether actual gameplay or a cutscene will be used.

Victory was suggested as the title of the new game in the Assassin's Creed series last year, when a leak talked about a new installment that would take place in Victorian London and would include a new set of gameplay features.

As it turns out, a grappling hook will be included, more firearms will be offered to players and carriages can be used for duels.

The Syndicate name might also be a clue that Ubisoft is seeking to focus more on cooperative play for the new Assassin's Creed.

Unity was launched in 2014 and was met with mixed reactions by players, and the company also introduced a Rogue title that was initially only offered on last-gen consoles.
