The folks at Cryptic have just published the first trailer that offers details on the story behind Neverwinter, the free-to-play action MMORPG that should be out sometime this summer.

For Dungeons & Dragons nerds, Neverwinter is a dream that’s about to become true. Based on the D&D 4th Edition campaign setting, the game offers enough variety to get you hooked for a very long time.

The freshly released trailer explains the story behind the game, so players who never had anything to do with the happenings in the 4th Edition can catch up with the events after the Spellplague.

The city of Neverwinter, also known as the Jewel of the North, is being rebuilt after the disaster caused by the Spellplague and the eruption of Mount Hotenow.

However, things are not that simple, as the city is besieged by orcs, undeads, kobolds, Nasher rebels and all sorts of aberrations, so it’s up to you to cleanse Neverwinter of these foul creatures and restore its past glory.

The game is due later this year (probably summer), but for more details on the gameplay (video included), check out our quick look.
