The development team at Naughty Dog and publisher Sony announce that The Last of Us has managed to sell more than 6 million copies since it was launched in the middle of last year, even as the game continues to pick up awards.

The total is pretty impressive given that the title was only released on the PlayStation 3 from Sony.

In July 2013 Sony revealed that The Last of Us had managed to sell more than 3.4 million copies, making it one of the best releases for the platform.

The official announcement of the new sales total also offers information on the talks that Naughty Dog will give on the game during the Game Developers Conference.

The studio will offer details on the development process and techniques that it used and will also explain how the Left Behind downloadable content fit into the wider mythology of the game world.

Naughty Dog is at the moment working on a multiplayer-only DLC for The Last of Us.

A movie based on the video game is also being worked on and will follow the exact same storyline.

Naughty Dog has also suggested that it might be testing some ideas for an eventual sequel.
