Video game developer The Creative Assembly and publisher SEGA have announced that strategy lovers will be able to download and play Napoleon: Total War for free on the Steam digital distribution service from Valve, until Sunday June 17 at 5 PM Greenwich Mean Time.

At the same time the game will be offered for 50 percent off on Steam and gamers can place an order for the reduced price until 5 PM GMT on Monday.

The special offer is linked to the celebration of the 197 anniversary of the defeat that the Duke of Wellington of the British Kingdom inflicted upon Emperor Napoleon Bonaparte of France.

The game itself uses the traditional mix of strategy on an overland map and tactical battles to allow players to re-create and improve upon the many battles that Napoleon fought during his career, starting with Italy and ending in a continent wide conflict that involves armies from Russia and Prussia to France and Britain.
